Evolution of Philippine Film Awards

Metro Manila Film Festival - started in 1973 as a festival, becomes Metro Manila wide and celebrated during Christmas Day - December 25
FAP Awards - given by the Film Academy of the Philippines, where academy members vote for their own peers
Star Awards for Movies - of the Philippines Movie Press Club (PMPC) started in 1985 and gave out awards such as "Darling of the Press"
Gawad Urian - establised by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino was first given out in 1976
Maria Clara Awards - the first award-giving body established in 1950 by the Manila Timese Publishing Co. with trophy made by national artist Guillermo Tolentino
FAMAS - FIlipino Academy of Movie Arts and Science was established in 1952 by media and movie industry practitioners, replacing the Maria Clara Awards
FAMAS trophy in early years was made of wood
Manila Film Festival - establised by the City of Manila under Mayor Antonio Villegas and celebrated on Manila Day, June 24, and comes with a parade of stars
