UPDATES of the UNESCO National Commission of the
Philippines (UNACOM)
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) supports
a National Survey on all the existing lifelong
education programs in the country as justification
for the Philippines’ bid to host the Asia-Pacific
Lifelong Center for Education for Sustainable
Development. In line with this, the projects of
the Education Committee of the UNESCO National
Commission are:
- UNACOM support for the EFA-Dakar
Pilot Project for Quality Basic Education for
Region III (A Pilot Project to Upgrade Quality
Basic Education in the Angeles Elementary Public
School in Region III.). This is for
the promotion of quality and innovative basic
education.
- UNACOM support for the projects of the Bureau
of Alternative Learning System, DepEd on crafting
of a Core Curriculum for the indigenous peoples
and a Consultative Forum on the status of deaf
education in the Philippines.
- Engagement of the youth in the work
of UNESCO through the Associated Schools Project
Network (ASPNet) and the UNESCO Clubs.
UNACOM in activating the ASPNet Schools and
the UNESCO Clubs. The Forum is aimed at encouraging
young people either from schools, universities
and the community to participate in the UNESCO
work. What

SOCIAL
AND HUMAN SCIENCES COMMITTEE
Mission:
To facilitate social transformation where justice,
freedom and human dignity can be fully recognized
by advancing knowledge, standards, and intellectual
cooperation.
Strategic Objectives 2002-2007:
- Promote principles and ethical norms to guide
scientific and technological development and
social transformation;
- Improve human security by better management
of the environment and social change;
- Enhance scientific, technical and human capabilities
to particate in the emerging knowledge society
PRIORITY PROGRAM 1
Advocacy of an improved social studies conceptual
framework for basic education and for use by social
studies and civics education teachers
PRIORITY PROGRAM 2
Design of an improved health education conceptual
framework for basic education and for use by health
education teachers and community workers
PRIORITY PROGRAM 3
Advocacy for creation of a Philippine-based Asian-Pacific
center for lifelong education towards sustainable
development as proposed by UNACOM's education
committee

- Rotating conference on bioethics
- Modules on conservation and cultural education
in partnership with the UNACOM culture committee
- Review of MAKABAYAN's effectiveness as an
entry point for Social and Human Sciences
