Changing
Lenses: Women's Perspectives on Media
Editorial consultant: Jo-ann Q. Maglipon
In 1997, the Asian
Regional Conference on Gender and Communication
Policy mandated Isis International-Manila
to carry out a survey of existing media
code of conduct in selected countries
in Asia and the Pacific. The survey,
entitled "State of Women and Media:
Focus on Violence Against Women,"
was presented at the 42nd session of
the United Nations Commission on the
Status of Women (CSW). At the 42nd session,
Isis in partnership with the United
Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM),
also organized a forum and successfully
campaigned for the inclusion of media-oriented
strategies for addressing violence against
women in the CSW's final document. This
book is the offshoot of that forum.
