just acknowledged for her work in the realm of
television and radio, Tina Monzon Palma is also
admired for her efforts as Program Director of
Bantay Bata 163. An iconic member of Philippine
Broadcast Journalism history, she had the strength,
courage and dignity to broadcast to a nation under
Martial Law. Today, you can find her on ABS-CBN's
news channel ANC, as anchor of the nightly news
broadcast "The World Tonight" and host
of the weekly issue-oriented interactive talk
show "Talkback with Tina Monzon-Palma".
She also opens the air waves to her listeners
on ABS-CBN's A.M. radio Station, DZMM as host
to "Paksa". |

Tina Monzon-Palma, as news
anchor during the times of Martial Law, never
lost her credibility and self-respect when reading
the press releases from Malacañang.
She was criticized by Marcos cronies, for reporting
with a slight cough or smile indicating her
disbelief in what she was reading, but she was
admired by many for expressing the opinion of
those who gathered on EDSA.
As an employee of ABS-CBN's cable news channel
ANC, Asian News Network, and their Radio Station
DZMM, she demonstrate the spirit of the company
in her willpower to be of service to the Filipino.
This is shown through her broadcasting career,
and her work as director for Bantay Bata 163.
Her Radio show "Paksa" aired on DZMM,
does not just discuss politics and entertainment,
but also important topics such as women's issues,
labor rights, children's welfare, and the militant
poor. "Paksa" in addition provides
counseling through twice- weekly visits by Ateneo's
Center for Family Ministries Foundation (CFAM).
As anchor for the nightly broadcast of ANC's
"The World Tonight" she reviews the
day's events in trustworthy manner. This follows
her work as Director of the Center for Media
Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR), a private
non-stock and non-profit corporation.
Nowadays, Tina Monzon-Palma is the host of ANC's
weekly issue-oriented interactive talk show
"Talkback with Tina Monzon-Palma"
the first truly Filipino interactive television
show. With features such as mobile SMS messaging,
live internet chatting and streaming videos
to facilitate participation from the audience
at home as well as in the studio. Her guests
vary from politicians and artists to businessmen's
and with all possible technology being utilized,
it really does allow people to talk back.
The same compassion and hard work are characteristic
of Bantay Bata. She says, "Some people
forget that children are gifts from God. Because
our clannish culture encourages it, many parents
think of children as properties they can do
anything with. They forget that children have
rights they are entitled to." Tina makes
sure that she will always be a model journalist
without compromising being a genuine and honest
human being.
